Ok, I know it’s been AGES since I’ve posted anything, but I have lots ot share! Work is going great. Wedding planning is just about all done. I have TONS of photos from our trip up. I got a flat tire coming back from Ottawa on the weekend (changing a tire in -7 temps on the side of the 401 ain’t fun!). Liz and I went to New York and Dublin back in October. Saw Chicago on Broadway, and it was amazing!
And the biggest, most important thing? Liz and I are contestants in the Mississauga’s Perfect Couple competition - it’s run by the Mississauga News, and the winners get a $5000 honeymoon. What with paying for a wedding on our own and buying a house in the next 7 months, that honeymoon sure would come in handy! If you could vote for us, I’d really appreciate it! You just have to go to the perfect couple website, register your email, fill out a stupid questionnaire (I just picked the first answer from every category) and vote for Liz and Ryan. How’s everybody else been holding up over the last 5 months or so?
So, this is the latest innovation from Google - Gmail Paper! For all those people that aren’t happy with their email being stored only digitally, now you can get it stored in paper format! Excellent! I love how they offset the cost of shipping.
Of course, a quick check of the date will explain how Google came up with this brilliant idea.
So, if you’re a dude, and you want to propose to your girlfriend, what do you do? This guy decided that he would setup up a web page to raise a million dollars and get an ad during the Superbowl, because they are both HUGE football fans. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out… he managed to get some sponsorship, and almost got his ad in (apparently he at least talked to CBS about it, but they decided against airing it). So, after failing that, he decided his next best option would be to get an ad played during her favourite show… Veronica Mars. Here’s the commercial he made: “My Super Proposal” - and here’s the video they took of her when it played “Geraldine’s Response“. Very cute! And congrats to the two of them!
Next July, Michael Bay’s transformers movie comes out. I’m not really holding my breath that it’ll be a good Transformers movie (it certainly won’t hold up to the original animated classic), but I’m hoping it’ll be a fun action movie. Well, the Transformers trailer is now up (warning, shitty Java interface), and I have to say it looks like it’ll be a fun little romp. The movie has definitely been Michael Bayified, and I *really* hate the look they’ve given the Transformers (especially Megatron… wtf?) but I’m sure it’ll be a fun little romp regardless.
I was so looking forward to seeing Glen Phillips play here in Dublin next month. He’s the former frontman for Toad the Wet Sprocket, if you don’t know who the hell I’m talking about. And if you don’t know who Toad is, you clearly haven’t known me for very long, as they’re one of my all time favourite bands. Sadly, Glen has to cut his trip short due to a family emergency. Blast it all to heck! It makes me very sad, but I also hope that everything is alright with his family!
Sylvester Stallone is spending an inordinate amount of time responding to 10 questions a day from readers at Ain’t It Cool News. He comes across surprisingly witty and self-deprecating. It’s really a very entertaining read. Here’s the first 13 parts:
This is a what the map of all the countries I’ve visted in Europe (not pictured, the Canary Islands, although they are technically part of Spain [and geographically, part of Africa? I’m unsure, though they certainly are much closer to Africa than Europe], I didn’t feel it was fair to include Spain in my list) will look like as of December 31st, 2006. That’s a lot of Europe to have seen in only 16 months living in Ireland!
This is absolutely astounding. Somebody actually managed to beat Mario 64 in 22 minutes. The sound is quite possibly the most irritating thing in the world (”Yahoo! Yahoo! Yahoo! Yahoo!”) but other than that? PURE, UNADULTERATED AWESOME. (Inline video in the more inside if you want to see) (via MeFi)
Listen to Mr T. He’s smart. And a heck of a singer.
(Yes, I’m still alive. I’m aiming to start posting every day from now on. Even if I have nothing interesting to say. Even if it’s just to share a Mr T music video from YouTube).
Ok, not *my* book technically, but you can buy the book with one of my pictures in it, which is soon to hit presses. Wooo! It actually looks like a kinda interesting coffee table book too, so it’s cool that my free copy is on its way!
TMNT Teaser Trailer. I was right smack in the middle of the TMNT craze when the first series came out. I loved the first (and second, I suppose) movie. The third movie was… painful. This new CGI film looks pretty damn awesome. The bit at the end is what sold me on it.
TNNWorld.com is just recently launched. It’s a pretty comprehensive travel site, complete with your usual photos, destination reports, “What’s on” informatoin, and travel deals. The site itself is pretty slick, and the ads are nicely unobtrusive (as compared to some other travel sites, especially). Now, I have to admit that I’m not completely impartial when I talk about this site, as Chris and his dad are the two main dudes behind it (and a photo or two of my own may show up on there from time to time), but I think it *is* a pretty damn good site. And eventually, from what I understand, there’s going to be contests up there as well to win trips. It’s still fresh, so don’t be surprised to find bugs on the site, but the amount of content on there is pretty impressive for how young the site is.
Last week I went to see Eimear’s brother’s band, The Chakras (their webpage is being created at the moment, so that link is to their MySpace page, which has sample music. The new single is remarkably good). Since I’d just gotten my 50mm f/1.8 Nikon lens, I thought it’d be a great chance to try out some low light photography. It was an interesting experience, and I spent a lot of time fumbling around with different settings trying to make it easier to take shots. The light was pretty low at Whelan’s, with occasional insanely bright flashes, which made for some interesting attempts at metering/catching shots. I ended up taking something like 160+ shots. There’s only 108 in my photoset (many of which could probably also go) because about 1/3 of my shots were either completely underexposed or completely overexposed. It was a lot of fun though, and the music was pretty rockin’. One thing I noticed, though: hipster dancing. is. so. weird.
Kyle MacDonald managed to trade from one red paperclip to a house in Kipling, Saskatchewan. Truly amazing, and he did it in less than a year! Way to go, Kyle!
This had me chuckling: Eddie Izzard on religion - it’s funny, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any Eddie Izzard comedy, but I recall from hearing about him in the past that he’s supposed to be pretty controversial. This was funny stuff, but not really “GASP! I can’t believe he SAID that!” controversial.
(via Lileks, who makes pretty much the same observation)
