Ok, I’m sure that’s absolutely NOT the case. However, I’ve entered myself in the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker. Man, that’s a mouthful and a half. I’m sure I’ll get my ass kicked out very early on, but it should still be fun, and maybe I’ll end up at a table with El Wheaton. Note to self - don’t bet into a flop showing 722 at this tourney unless you hold the hammer. This little bit below is required in order to be registered in the tourney.
(thanks, NickerBlog)
Got this in an email forward, and had to share it with the world. This is probably why you should be wary as a TV host when somebody asks you “We’re broadcasting this live, right?”
I went to see The Da Vinci Code on Friday. I went in with some trepidation, as critics have just about universally panned it. However, I read one review on Friday, which basically said “I’m a book snob, and I thought the book was tripe, so I went into the movie expecting tripe, and got it.” Personally, I LOVED the book (ok, it’s not high literature. But you’re talking to the guy who has read something like 30 Star Wars books in the last year and a half or so), and since most of the reviews seemed to be of the “it’s just like the book, and the book sucks” variety, I at least had a bit of hope.
And the result? I quite liked it! It’s been a good 2 years or so since I read the book, which I think is far enough removed that I didn’t really remember all the details - which is good, because it IS very faithful to the book. I never realized how pretty Audrey Tatou is, but then I’ve only ever seen her in Amelie, where she kinda looks like a spaz. Both she and Tom Hanks did a pretty good job - although I always pictured Langdon as being a bit more… rugged? I don’t know. That creepy long hair certainly didn’t do it for me. I guess they were going for that “academic with not much sense of style” thing. The ending was kinda lame, and it felt a bit rushed over the last 20 minutes or so, but otherwise a very enjoyable trip to the theatre. Much more enjoyable than Scary Movie 4 would be, at any rate.
Update: Since the worldwide gross was $224,000,000, I guess I’m not the only one who went to see it this weekend.
So, Flickr has updated itself to Gamma. Some cool new features. A new, non-flash Organizr. I’m not really sure what I think of it yet… some of the stuff is really nice (all the dropdowns at the top), but I hate that the date slider is gone from the old Organizr. Alas, what can ya do? I’ll get used to it, I’m sure.
I’ve been EXHAUSTED since I returned from my vacation. No matter what time I go to bed, I never seem to get enough sleep. I don’t know what’s WRONG with me! And thus, I haven’t been much of a blogger. I just don’t have the motivation to write, right now. Sorry.
Entertainment Weekly’s 20 Scariest Movies of All Time
A great list. I admit that I haven’t seen a fair chunk of them (Psycho and The Shining are the two foremost that I haven’t seen), but pretty awesome. However, Evil Dead is in the list? I dunno, maybe at the time. But having seen it for the first time about 5 years ago, I just thought it was kinda silly and WAY over the top.
Ok, since I know that I’m insanely lazy, and it’s going to take me a while to come up with a full blog post on the trip to Lanzarote, I’ll do a short version here:
Lanzarote was gorgeous. Sat by the pool. Serious tan with a tiny bit of burn (vice versa for Liz). Catamaran. Cheap food and sangria. Pictures. Read lots. Dublin weather = kinda disappointing in comparison.
According to Yahoo Finance, the Canadian dollar is currently worth $0.8998 US. That’s insane. I remember back when I was working in San Francisco, the Canadian dollar was roughly 60-65 cents US. It was great for me, because it meant that all that cash I was making in US buckaroonies would translate into kick butt cashola when I cam back to school. And apparently it even soard above 90 cents last week. However, the soaring Canadian dollar ain’t so hot for me now. Since I’m making all my money in Euro, but I’m paying off my Canadian dollar debts at home. I’m effectively making about the same amount of money now as when I got my job here, but every time the Canadian dollar spikes (like, at the end of March, and December), my earnings, while getting the same paycheque, drop significantly. It seriously sucks. I wish we could get back to the days of the Euro being worth like 1.60 Canadian. That would be so sweet.
